The regular season is complete. Over the last 9 weeks, the teams have each played their 10 total matchups, 2 apiece against their opponents. After all was said and done, our 4 playoff teams have emerged, and it came down to the final day, last Saturday, for Natura Solutions to clinch that 4th and final berth.
New teams, Safe Pacific Financial and Coquitlam Ducks fought hard throughout the season, each earning 2 matchup wins, but it wasn’t enough to pull them through to the elimination rounds. In their final matches of the season Safe Pacific Financial needed a sweep victory to steal the 4th seed from Natura Solutions, who had left the door slightly open after dropping a 4-1 decision to Dunbar Cycles earlier in the day. Natura did end up prevailing over Safe Pacific 3-2, claiming their 3rd win of the season and punching their ticket to the semi-final this weekend. However, they’ll have to get through the number 1 seeded Pacific coast to go any further.
Pacific Coast was the other team with back-to-back matchups in the final week of the regular season, and they cemented their spot at the top of this season’s standings with a 4-1 win to end the Ducks season, and a 3-2 victory over last season’s Vancouver champions, Skyball. With a 9-1 record on the season, Pacific Coast sits firmly atop the leaderboard and will be the favorite to win the NBVL Vancouver season heading into this coming weekend, but they will need to get through their previously mentioned semi-final opponent, Natura Solutions first.
The other semi-final will be a rematch of last season’s final between the #2-seeded Dunbar Cycles and #3-seed Skyball. Both teams have competed well this season, with 7-3 records, and neither would be a surprise to take home hardware this weekend. Skyball has taken both regular season matchups between the two teams during the regular season, but Dunbar Cycles is the only team that has been able to take a win from Pacific Coast so it’s hard to say which is the favorite going into this semi-final.
Playoffs work a little differently from the regular season. Over the last 9 weeks, teams have been jostling for points to lock in their spots in the standings, so every set had value, and the overtime set was guaranteed. Now we enter the playoffs where it’s all about winning matches, so men and women will each play a best-of 3 match, and overtime will only come into play in a split decision.
The 10-week NBVL Vancouver season comes to a close this weekend! Who’s your favorite to take it all? Come out to 6Pack Beach this Saturday to support all your favorite teams and players.
